Safeguarding Sunday, September 24th 2017This marks the fourth annual celebration of Safeguarding Sunday in our Diocese. Safeguarding and protecting the children and the vulnerable of the parish is everyone’s responsibility and privilege. We wish to gratefully acknowledge the commitment of those in our parish who serve us all as Parish Safeguarding Representatives or as members of the Safeguarding sub-committee of the Parish Pastoral Council. We thank all who actively promote safeguarding to insure the safety of children and vulnerable adults at all time and to re-assure parents that the safety of their children is of paramount concern to all within the Diocese. In our parish we are marking the day by having a short address about Child safeguarding at all Masses. We are very grateful for your support in this work. “Families need to know that the Church is making every effort to protect their children. They should also know that they have every right to turn to the Church with full confidence, for it is a safe and secure home. Consequently, priority must not be given to any other kind of concern, whatever its nature, such as the desire to avoid scandal, since there is absolutely no place in ministry for those who abuse minors.” (Pope Francis’ letter on the work of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors 2015). |
