Prayer Gathering for Syria and Aleppo-31st October 2016
Many thanks to Fiona O'Brien who initiated the special prayer service for those suffering in Syria. At the end of the service, people were invited to light a candle and place it on the altar as a pledge of their commitment to peace and peaceful ways in the face of the suffering in Syria, and of Aleppo, at this particular time.
A Prayer for Syria
Lord our God, Father of all humanity;
change the hearts of all peoples and their rulers,
so that peace may be established among the nations on the foundation of justice, love and righteousness.
May the Spirit of Peace
descend upon the people of Syria
and upon our world
until all conflicts cease
and peace reigns on earth. AMEN.

I don't judge others. I don't hate. I don't discriminate. I don't care about money. I don't hold grudges.
I DO know how to love unconditionally and that's all I need in return. I'm a fur-ever friend.

On 30th January 2016, Deirdre Farrell and Anngret Simms, Parish Pastoral Council Members, attended a conference organized by the Diocese on prayer in the church of the future. They heard Father Kieran J. O'Mahony, OSA, speak on "Parables in St. Luke" and, also, Judith Kavanagh who spoke on "Liturgical Practice in the Church of the Future" when the initiative might have to lie with lay-people. Judith was a contributor to the book, "It Is Good For Us To Be Here", Veritas, 2015. She told the audience of 100 men and women that the Vatican II attempted to open up the treasures of the scriptures as we Christians are people of the book. She distributed hand-outs with practical instructions on how lay-people can organize morning and evening prayers in their churches.
