Music

Here in Star of the Sea we hope that our Liturgical music can lift our hearts and be a moving and powerful way to pray. Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy. A quote often attributed to St. Augustine is: to sing is to pray twice. God has given each of us gifts – including our voice. Though some people may have better singing voices than others, that should not stop any of us from singing!

The Parish Choir leads the congregation at 12 noon Mass every Sunday as well as at the major Liturgical events throughout the year. The repertoire reflects the spirit of each Liturgical celebration and encourages active participation of the Congregation. The Choir is a diverse and inclusive choir, open to anyone regardless of experience, age or musical expertise. The only qualifications to join are to have a love of singing and a willingness to learn!

Rehearsals are at 11.30 am on a Sunday before Mass and at 7 pm on the first Monday of the month.

The Children’s Choir is going from strength to strength. The aim is to sing a child-orientated repertoire which supports and enhances the Liturgy of the Mass. The Children’s choir sing at the 10.30 am Family Mass every Sunday and rehearsals are 10 am every Sunday before Mass and on the first Monday of the month at 6pm for an hour.

The Sandymount Gospel Choir are invited to sing at the 6pm Sunday Mass on 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.

Please contact the Parish office 01-668 3316 for information on joining any of the above.

New members are always welcome in our Choirs and this would be a good time for anyone who likes singing (you don’t have to be able to read music) to come along to the rehearsal on Monday night.  Choir membership involves a practice one Monday night per month and half an hour before 12 o’clock Mass on Sundays. New members welcome for both choirs. (children over 7 years).
